2012-2013 SENIOR SOLUTIONS
Meet Mrs. Kowker - Our Senior Partner
Our project started with selecting our Senior Partner, Mrs. Kowker. She is a retired teacher, K-Kids sponsor in our building, and works with the Memory Support Group at Mable Rose Retirement Community. Our discussions with Mrs. Kowker lead us to our project of creating innovative solutions to help seniors remember to take the right medications, at the right time, in the right amount. The team researched memory loss and brainstormed ideas to prevent incorrect use of medications. We had many possible solutions and we were surprised to learn how many devices and contraptions were already out on the market. We came up with three strategies to help seniors remember their meds and were intrigued to learn what seniors face daily in their lives.
Meet B.E.R.T.
- We came up with B.E.R.T’s name by looking at our own team name: Bellevue Elementary Robotics Team
- B.E.R.T has four wheels
- Two tires for traction in the front for driving and climbing
- Two wheels without tires for sliding, turning, and balance
- B.E.R.T has only one main attachment, but...
- Our attachment can hit things up or down with it’s claw
- Gather and hold objects in its cage
- Push objects across the table
- B.E.R.T has three motors.
- Two motors for our driving base
- And the other motor for our attachment
- B.E.R.T has seven programs
- We kept our missions simple
- We challenged ourselves to make missions that could do multiple tasks
- Our strategy was to complete farther missions first that took more time, then work on missions closer to base
- Our favorite mission is the bowling mission
- Our most reliable mission was our lever mission
- Our funniest robot moment was when we were attempting the bridge and it kept falling over
- B.E.R.T uses 39.6 KB of his memory.
